Kratom Alkaloids 101: Beyond Mitragynine

Kratom alkaloids are the plant’s active chemistry — more than 40 identified compounds, of which one, mitragynine, gets almost all the attention. But the full profile is what a certificate of analysis actually maps, what distinguishes one harvest from another, and what the “full-spectrum versus isolate” debate is really about. The major players

• Mitragynine — the dominant alkaloid, roughly half to two-thirds of total alkaloid content in commercial leaf. The reference compound for potency testing and the active ingredient in our standardized tablets. Full profile: what is mitragynine.

What moves the profile

Four variables do nearly all the work: the tree’s genetics and region, harvest maturity, and above all the drying protocol — sun-curing and fermentation measurably convert mitragynine into 7-OH, which is the chemical heart of how vein colors are made. Full-spectrum versus standardized: the honest state of the debate

Advocates of plain leaf argue the natural alkaloid balance matters — an “entourage” of compounds working together. Advocates of standardized products argue that only a fixed milligram count delivers consistency. The evidence for the entourage position is thin and mostly theoretical; the argument for standardization is arithmetic — an identical serving every time.
